Burnley Preparing Swoop For Rabiu Afolabi
The Premier League new-boys are looking to bolster their ranks by signing the Nigeria international defender...
According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mirror, Premier League newcomers Burnley are ready to pounce for Rabiu Afolabi.
The Clarets are able to snap up the 29-year-old on a free transfer after he decided to leave French Ligue 1 outfit Sochaux at the end of the 2008-09 campaign.
The 6ft defender recently signalled his intention to continue plying his trade in Europe, claiming that he had received offers from clubs in Spain, Germany and Turkey.
The ten-time capped Nigeria international, who has scored one goal for the Super Eagles, has already had spells in Belgium with Standard Liege, in Italy with Napoli, and in Austria with Austria Vienna.
Afolabi made 122 first-team appearances for Les Lionceaux, finding the back of the net on five occassions.

Burnley Youngster Chris McCann To Be Offered New Contract
The 21-year-old is in line for a new and much-improved contract...
Burnley manager Owen Coyle has told the Lancashire Telegraph that he wants to tie promising youngster Chris McCann down on a long contract and put him on a par with the club's top earners.
"We want to sort something out for Chris," Coyle said.
"First and foremost we want him on a long-term contract, but also one where he knows he’s at the top end of our wage structure."
The Dubliner has a wealth of first-team experience already, having played 139 games in total for Burnley, including 56 of the Clarets' 61 games last season.
McCann also found the back of the net eight times last year, including one against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carling Cup semi-final, and Coyle is keen to secure the youngster to an extended contract.
After only signing a renewed deal two years ago, McCann's current contract expires next summer. A number of other Burnley players are in the same situation, including club captain Steven Caldwell, and Coyle will meet with a number of agents and representatives in the coming weeks.

Burnley & Celtic Join Race For Hibernian's Steven Fletcher
The Scotland international striker is attracting plenty of attention this summer...
According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mirror, Premier League newcomers Burnley have made an offer for Hibernian's Steven Fletcher.
Apparently, the Clarets have lodged a bid of £2.75 million for the 2007-08 Scottish Football Writers' Young Player of the Year.
However, it is thought that the Lancashire-based outfit could face plenty of competition for the 22-year-old's signature.
It is claimed that Hibs are looking to receive £4m for the 6ft 1in striker, and on Friday it was reported that Blackburn Rovers were ready to pay that fee. Meanwhile, Scottish giants Celtic are believed to be waiting in the wings.
Fletcher is highly-rated in Scotland and has previously been linked with the likes of Manchester City, Middlesbrough and even Spanish giants Real Madrid
Although born in Shrewsbury, England, he has chosen to represent Scotland at international level and to date he has scored once in four caps.
The forward has a good goal-scoring record for Hibs, having found the back of the net 51 times in 189 first-team appearances.

Hibernian Ready To Sell Steven Fletcher To Burnley
The Clarets look set to sign the highly rated Scot, with a deal all but agreed...
Burnley look set to complete the signing of Hibernian's highly rated striker, Steven Fletcher.
According to The Daily Mail, Hibs are ready to accept an offer worth about £3.5 million from Burnley, a club that Fletcher is keen to join.
If the deal does go through, it will be something of a coup for the Clarets, given that Celtic were heavily interested in the player. Indeed, Hibs rejected a £2m bid from the Hoops in January, preferring to hold out for more money in the summer. In addition, they were not willing to lose another player to an SPL rival.
For his part, Fletcher sees Burnley as an attractive option for the increased playing time they can offer him in comparison with other Premier League clubs.
The striker has now become a regular in Scotland's national team, having won four caps, and he even scored the winner in the recent qualifier against Iceland.
With all parties seemingly keen to finalise the deal, talks are expected to continue today, and Fletcher will fly to Lancashire in the next two days to put pen to paper.
Fletcher has represented Hibs 155 times, scoring 43 goals.

Graham Alexander Signs One-Year Contract Extension With Burnley
The Scotland international defender has committed himself to the Clarets as they prepare for life in the Premier League next season...
Premier League newcomers Burnley have confirmed that veteran defender Graham Alexander has signed a new contract at Turf Moor.
A statement on the club's official website reads, "Burnley Football Club are delighted to announce that Graham Alexander has signed a new one-year deal."
The 37-year-old has been a key figure for the Clarets since completing a £200,000 move from Lancashire rivals Preston North End in 2007.
The 38-time capped Scotland international scored 11 goals in 61 games for Burnley in the 2008-09 campaign as he helped them win promotion back to England's top-flight for the first time since 1976.
Alexander's new one-year deal means he will stay with the Clarets until the summer of 2010.

Re: Burnley
Tyrone Mears Has Signed Burnley Contract
After the clubs agreed a fee just over a week ago, the right-back has now put pen to paper on his contract...
Tyrone Mears has inked a three-year contract with Premier League new-boys Burnley this morning.
"Tyrone has agreed personal terms and passed a medical at Burnley, and has agreed a three-year deal," his agent, Willie McKay, confirmed in The Lancashire Telegraph.
"He is really excited by the move and is looking forward to helping Burnley in their first season in the Premier League."
Mears, who spent last season on loan with Olympique de Marseille, leaves Derby County where he has plied his trade since 2007. The deal is thought to be worth £500,000 plus add ons for the 26-year-old right-back.
Manager Owen Coyle has a number of other transfer targets in the pipeline, with the signing of out-of-contract David Edgar believed to be completed imminently.
They are also expected to break the club transfer record by more than double as they look to finalise a deal for Hibernian's Steven Fletcher for a reported £3.5m.

Re: Burnley
