Fabio Daprela marcó un golazo para Suiza sub'19 en el partido Suiza 3-1 Grecia

Wonder goal for Daprela
Fabio Daprela showed off his attacking ability with a great strike for Switzerland Under-19s

Reserves y Academy Daprelac

Fabio Daprela scored a wonder goal for Switzerland Under-19s as they won 3-1 against Greece in the opening match of a four-nation friendly tournament in France.
The promising West Ham United defender struck just before the hour mark of the match being played in Limoges. He surged forward from left-back, dribbled past four opponents and then showed great composure to score past the Greece goalkeeper. It was a match-clinching strike after two earlier goals from FC Zurich forward Admir Mehmedi had sandwiched an equaliser from the visitors.
Switzerland are next in action on Friday afternoon against Poland before taking on France this Sunday evening. Daprela's strike followed on from his first goal for West Ham last month during a 2-2 draw for the reserves away in Poland against Arka Gdynia. Still only 18, he has yet to appear for the Hammers first team although was an unused substitute last Sunday against Everton.
Switzerland have already qualified for next spring's Elite round UEFA European U19 Championship qualifying. Seven group winners from the Elite round will progress to the final tournament, which will be held in northern France next summer.

Youths off to Plymouth
Tony Carr's youngsters have been drawn away to Plymouth Argyle in the FA Youth Cup third round

Reserves y Academy 0,,1004~2828158,00

West Ham United have been drawn away to Plymouth Argyle in the third round of the FA Youth Cup.

The Hammers, who won the competition in 1963, 1981 and 1999, will make the long trip to Devon for the tie, which must be played before Saturday 12 December.

Tony Carr and his side are eager to put in a good showing in the prestigious competition, having been knocked out at the first hurdle in each of the last three seasons.

Last December, the Hammers were frozen out 3-1 by Nottingham Forest on a wintry night at the City Ground.

However, the Academy youngsters will make the 260-mile journey to Home Park in good spirits, having remained unbeaten in their last five FA Premier Academy League matches.

Plymouth have enjoyed good runs in the tournament in each of the last two seasons, reaching the fifth round last term before being knocked out by Tottenham Hotspur. Two years ago, the Pilgrims progressed to the quarter-final stage before being beaten by eventual winners Manchester City.

Argyle are not part of the FA Premier Academy League set-up, instead fielding their youngsters in the Puma Youth Alliance South West Conference, which they won in 2007/08.

Managed by former Stoke City and Everton defender Mike Pejic, Plymouth have won just one of their six league and cup fixtures so far this season.

Full details on the date and ticket arrangements will be announced shortly.

U18s: Chelsea 1-3 West Ham

Robert Hall scored two goals as West Ham United Under-18s beat Chelsea 3-1 on Saturday to make it six games without loss.

Hall struck once in either half for Tony Carr's side before the visitors pulled one back. Conor Okus made the game safe with a third for the hosts in the 80th minute.

In strong winds at Little Heath, West Ham took the lead when Hall collected a superb defence-splitting pass from Ahmed Abdulla and beat the goalkeeper with a low drive. The 16-year-old doubled the advantage a minute after the interval when he dispossessed Chelsea's central defender and whipped a delicious shot past the goalkeeper and into the far corner of the net.

The second goal seemed to awaken the visitors and they started to press forward with more purpose with a goal from a left-wing cross.

However, Conor Okus was to have the final say of the match with West Ham's third ten minutes from time. The midfielder, who had missed a good opportunity moments earlier, finished off a fine move by collecting Cristian Montano's pass and firing home.

"We played very well in the conditions and thought we adapted to them much better than Chelsea did, especially in the first half," Carr said. "They never really came out and had a go at us until they were 2-0 down but we finished strongly and could have won by two or three more.

"Chelsea were second in the league so it is no mean feat to have beaten them as comprehensively as we did.

"The pitch was very heavy, very boggy and the strong winds didn't help. When the rain did come down in the game it made it very difficult. It was touch and go but in the end it was just about playable."

In addition to the fine result, the performance of Hall also understandably pleased the Academy director.

"His goal was an opportunist's goal - he doesn't need many chances and he normally takes them when they come his way. He's thrown a marker down to the other strikers in the squad.

"He had two chances and took them and it was a fantastic performance from him when you consider he is a schoolboy of course."

After not enjoying the greatest consistency in their opening run of fixtures, Carr's side have put together a good run of late and have conceded just two goals in their last four games.

"We've settled down a bit and we're not conceding the goals we were conceding before. We were shooting ourselves in the foot when we were in good positions. The players are starting to mature and take on board all of the work we are doing on the training ground."

The Under-18s return to league action next Saturday with another London derby, this time away at Charlton Athletic.

West Ham United: Loveday, Modelski, Craig, Sanchez, Brown, Moncur, Wearen (Barrett 75), Abdulla, Hall (Werndly 85), Montano

Nouble answers England call
Frank Nouble has joined up with England Under-19s after getting a late call-up

Reserves y Academy FrankNouble_633861035446482500

Frank Nouble will hope to win his second England Under-19 cap when they take on Turkey in an international friendly in Scunthorpe on Tuesday night.
The 18-year-old striker was a late call-up after overcoming a recent knock. The match at Glanford Park, home of Scunthorpe United, is free to the public.
It will be a vital warm-up for next spring's Elite round for the 2010 UEFA European Under-19 Championship after Nouble helped the Young Lions to reach that stage with three wins from three in the first qualifying round. Nouble will be in good forward company with the likes of Aston Villa's Nathan Delfouneso and Newcastle United's Nile Ranger also involved.
