I´d love to land Tevez, admits boss
Mark Hughes has confirmed that City are in the running to land star strikers Carlos Tevez and Samuel Eto'o - but he urged Blues fans to be patient as not every transfer will go smoothly in this extraordinary summer.
City boss Hughes presented new signing Roque Santa Cruz at an official media conference today and went on the record with the Club's interest in Barcelona forward Eto'o and Tevez, whose loan at Manchester United has ended.
The Blues manager said: "Carlos is a player I have huge admiration for. He's a great player and a great competitor, and any manager would be delighted to have him in the team. Carlos would be a real asset to our future plans but at the moment he's not our player. We'll see what happens.
"We've lodged a bid for Samuel Eto'o, and I don't think there's any update on that. We've tracked the players we think will help us and he's one I've got a lot of respect for. We have to stand back and see what develops.
"We'll all have to be patient. Every transfer is different - we were able to do the Gareth Barry deal very quickly, the one for Rocky was long-winded. We have to accept there may be others that will take a little bit of time.
"There is always an element of frustration when you can't conclude deals quickly. But we will give every deal the patience we feel it deserves. If we get to a point where we feel something is not going to happen, that's the time we move away. We've done that in the past.
"But we'll continue to look at quality as we always have. It's not about using the transfer market to make a statement about where we stand in the football world. We are building to challenge at the top table."
Main man Mark expressed his delight at signing Paraguay ace Santa, a long-time target, from his former club Blackburn to follow England midfielder Barry as a key summer arrival at City of Manchester Stadium.
Santa Cruz has already shown his attitude and commitment to his new boss and team-mates by starting training early at Carrington, having missed the end of the season at Blackburn following a routine knee operation.
Hughes said: "I've got great respect for him as a player and as a person. His mentality as well as his ability will add to the squad. And he understands from his time at Bayern Munich the expectation being at a big club entails.
"He's an ambitious player and he's joined because he sees the ambition we have for our club. He will continue to improve himself as a player, and to get him here finally is a great relief from my point of view."

"Debemos esperar a ver qué pasa.

Chelsea Reject Manchester City's John Terry Bid
Chelsea have revealed that they have rejected yet another bid from Manchester City for John Terry.
City have been chasing Terry for some time, but their efforts continue to be unsuccessful. Indeed, Chelsea have gone to the lengths of releasing a statement on their official website.
It read, "Chelsea Football Club can confirm it has completely rejected an offer from Manchester City for John Terry.
"It was made clear to City, for the second time following an approach last season, that we would not entertain any conversation on the subject."
For his part, Terry has consistently repeated his commitment to Chelsea, despite the fact that Man City could considerably increase his wages. Along with Frank Lampard, he is currently the highest-paid player at Stamford Bridge.
Neither side has disclosed the value of the rejected bid.

Manchester City Preparing Third Bid For John Terry Despite Chelsea Rebuff
Ambitious Manchester City may be in the running for an award for sheer persistence after reports emerged that they are preparing a third bid to persuade Chelsea and England skipper John Terry to head north to Eastlands - even though the Blues categorically ruled out any deal earlier on Friday.
Chelsea issued a statement insisting that they had "completely rejected an offer from Manchester City for John Terry", stressing that, "it was made clear to City, for the second time following an approach last season, that we would not entertain any conversation on the subject."
Moreover, Terry has himself recently reiterated his commitment to the Stamford Bridge club.
Nevertheless, the Telegraph has revealed that, undeterred, "City sources" say their club have received sufficient encouragement that Terry may yet be lured away from Stamford Bridge to test Chelsea’s resolve once more.
Quite what that encouragement might be is unclear, but it would be a seismic shock if City - whose second bid for Terry was valued at £30 million, according to the Telegraph - succeeded in prising the Blues' skipper away from west London.
It may take a further, unequivocal statement of loyalty to Chelsea from Terry himself to quell all speculation and convince City that this one won't come to fruition.

Re: Rumores, versos y demás
Shaun Wright-Phillips is adamant that Mark Hughes is the manager who will enable the ‘Typical City’ tag to be shed once and for all.
The unwanted description of the team has plagued successive regimes but the England winger is determined that is all about to change.
“The fact that on the day I came back to City we stayed in the UEFA Cup through a last-minute own goal against Midtjylland and then won a dramatic penalty shoot-out made me smile,” he recalled.
"I’ve been here that long that I’m used to that being the way with City - it was always like that when I was coming through the ranks. We always liked to do the things the hard way, but hopefully the boss is slowly but surely getting that out of us now and this is a club geared for sustained success.
"With the additions the manager has made this summer hopefully we will be flying this coming season. He was one of the reasons, along with the fans and the fact that the club is in my heart, that I came back 'home'." Shaun Wright-Phillips
Wright-Phillips, now free from the knee injury that threatened to force him on to an operating table this summer, has set his sights on trophies with the Blues and a place in England’s World Cup squad in South Africa.
He admits that losing his berth in the 2006 party under Sven-Goran Eriksson, who put the then untried 17-year-old Theo Walcott ahead of him, was one of the low points of his career.
“I was gutted,” he recalled. “I played a major part in the qualifying rounds because David Beckham was injured and so to be left out was pretty confusing, but you learn something from those times in your career.”

Tevez: I'm no traitor
FORMER United striker Carlos Tevez is confident he will not be viewed as a traitor by the Old Trafford faithful if he completes a transfer to the club's cross-city rivals.
The Argentina international turned down a permanent deal at United last month following a two-year loan deal and has since been linked with a lucrative move to City.
Chelsea are also reportedly tracking the 25-year-old's availability, but Eastlands is Tevez's likely destination this summer.
Tevez said: "If I play for Manchester City I don't think the United fans will feel I am a traitor.
"They have to remember that at least as far as I know I have been thrown out of the club and I have to study the best offers available."
Tevez's decision to turn down the offer of a five-year deal at United has been defended by his adviser Kia Joorabchian, and the player himself insists manager Sir Alex Ferguson left him with little choice but to move on.
"It has come about because I could not stand my sporting situation at Manchester United any longer," he continued.
"My first year was good in all senses. I played in the games and felt respected by the coach but in my second year some strange things happened that I still do not understand.
"After the game at Old Trafford where Liverpool beat us 4-1, in March, Ferguson ignored me almost as if I was to blame for the defeat when really Liverpool dominated us all over the pitch.
"After that the fans called for me to be in the team but he never took the advice on board because he always knows best.
"I gave everything for Manchester United and people know that. For that reason I don't deserve the way things have ended up."

Blues step up Eto'o efforts
BARCELONA are finally ready to smooth the path for Samuel Eto'o to join City.
Joan Laporta, Barca's president, has indicated he is willing to show flexibility over the compensation wrangle at the heart of the Eto'o saga.
The Blues have already agreed a £25m fee with the Catalan giants to buy the striker.
But the sticking point has been a bonus clause in Eto'o's contract which entitles him to compensation if Barca sell him before his contract expires in 12 months' time.
Laporta is hopeful that a deal can be done to help Barca finance moves for Valencia striker David Villa - a one-time City target - and Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano.
And the president has indicated to sources in Spain that he may be ready to agree a pay-off to Eto'o to allow the move to Manchester to go through - or to renegotiate the transfer fee so that part of City's £25m offer goes to the striker.
The 28-year-old Cameroon international hit 36 goals for Barca last season, including the opener as they beat United 2-0 in Rome to lift the Champions League trophy two months ago.
He was understood to have been reluctant to join City initially, because of their lack of Champions League football next season.
But the Blues have the financial backing to make him one of the world's best-paid footballers, although the club have dismissed suggestions that he would earn £250,000 a week at Eastlands.
Patient
City boss Mark Hughes has already warned this week that he may have to be patient to get the stars he wants this summer.
A £30m bid for John Terry was rejected by Chelsea late on Thursday night as Hughes sought to add to the signings of Gareth Barry from Aston Villa and Roque Sants Cruz from Blackburn.
Chelsea's public knock-back over Terry has done little to help their relations with City, with the two clubs unable to agree a fee over out-of-contract striker Daniel Sturridge, who signed a four-year deal with the London club yesterday. City officially released the 19-year-old striker on Tuesday after he rejected a new deal but are entitled to compensation because of his age.
The 19-year-old's fee will now be settled by a tribunal.
Hughes is hoping to bolster his front line further by sealing a deal for Argentinian striker Carlos Tevez over the next few days.
The Blues boss has an eye on completing the signing of the former United man while his players are in Germany at a pre-season training camp.
One striker who looks less likely to figure in Hughes' plans for next season is Felipe Caicedo.
The Ecuadorian forward, who still has three seasons to run on his contract at Eastlands, has indicated that he would be interested in a move to Sporting Lisbon if he is not going to be getting regular games with the Blues.
The 20-year-old, a £5.2m signing from Swiss club Basel in January 2008, has also been interesting West Ham.

Re: Rumores, versos y demás
Stand by for the North-South divide widening to a chasm.
That’s the view of City’s Martin Petrov, who believes the Blues are primed and ready to join forces with the north-west’s other major forces and shift football’s balance of power.
The Bulgarian international winger, whose snapped knee ligament kept him on the sidelines for most of last term, believes that owner Sheikh Mansour’s investment in all areas of the club will catapult the Blues towards the top of the table.
“City want success and the money we have will help us to become a better team and become as good as Arsenal and Chelsea,” he insisted.
“Before Chelsea got their investment, they were no better than we are now so we know that if we spend well we can challenge for trophies and titles in the future.”
Petrov, who has spent the summer preparing himself for an all-out assault on a place in Mark Hughes’ future plans, is positive that the days of false dawns at City are a thing of the past.
He admits he is indebted to the club’s supporters for helping him through what was a difficult twelve months and has urged them to believe that their favourites are destined for great things.
“I would like to thank the fans for being behind me throughout my time at City, even when I have been injured,” he declared. “They should believe in this team because all we need is time.

Terry D-Day for City
CITY target John Terry's Chelsea future will be decided today when Carlo Ancelotti moves into his Stamford Bridge office.
The Blues are not backing off from their pursuit of the England skipper and could up their offer to £40m with a £180,000-a-week salary making him the top Premier League earner. As revealed in M.E.N. Sport last month, Blues owner Sheikh Mansour has told club officials that he wants the Chelsea man as a figurehead.
Chelsea reacted with derision to City's offer of £28m plus a waiving of the fee for Daniel Sturridge, which was tabled late on Thursday night.
But that is sure to be the opening shot in a fight for the services of Terry, whom the Sheikh wants ahead of next summer's World Cup finals.
The Sheikh feels England will have a successful tournament and, if that happens, wants it to be a City man lifting the trophy a la Bobby Moore.
That idea has also gained favour with City's kit manufacturers Umbro, who also have lucrative deals with England and with Terry himself.
New Chelsea boss Ancelotti will make it his priority to clarify Terry's position. When City made their first move for Terry last season, it was rejected out of hand and Terry made it plain that he did not want to leave.
But, since then, the Blues have shown their ambitions by signing Gareth Barry and Roque Santa Cruz and moving to the brink of landing Carlos Tevez, Samuel Eto'o and Joleon Lescott.
