Woodhouse Joins Harrogate

Harrogate Town have announced the signing of 29 year old midfielder Curtis Woodhouse.

Curtis is a former England Under-21 international who started his career as a junior at York City before joining Sheffield United's Centre of Excellence. He went on to make over 100 league appearances for the Blades, before moving to Birmingham City for a £1 million fee in February 2001. After a loan spell at Rotherham United, he moved to Peterborough United and has also had periods at Hull City, Grimsby Town, and Rushden & Diamonds. He joins Harrogate Town at the CNG Stadium from Mansfield Town, where he made 11 appearances in the Blue Square Premier at the back end of last season.

As well as being a footballer, Curtis is also a professional boxer with 10 wins and 1 loss to date in his career. His next fight is scheduled for July 4 at the Olympia, Liverpool.

Chairman Bill Fotherby enthusisatically exclaimed "Signing Curtis Woodhouse is a major coup for Harrogate Town, and proves again that we don't intend to be just making up the numbers next season. Myself and Simon Weaver share a dream of promotion and a team is being built that will be capable of achieving that goal."

Reds Pounce for Dabbers Defender

New boys Ilkeston Town have recruited defender Charlie O'Loughlin from former UniBond League Premier Division rivals Nantwich Town – the team they beat in the play-off final.

The 20-year-old centre back was on the losing side at the New Manor Ground in early May but now joins the Robins for their first-ever Blue Square North campaign.

O'Loughlin began his career with Port Vale, making three substitute appearances for the first-team before being released.

He has had brief experience of Blue Square North football during a loan spell with Hinckley United.

First Two New Celts

Stalybridge Celtic boss Steve Burr has begun the process of building his squad for next season with the first two new signings of the summer.

Celtic have announced the signings of striker Joe O Neill and winger Dave Hankin.

O Neill (pictured), 26, arrives at Bower Fold having been released by Blue Square Premier outfit Altrincham.

His previous clubs include Preston, Bury, Mansfield Town, Chester City and York City.

Hankin, 24, joins Celtic from UniBond League Division One North side Clitheroe and the 6`3” winger has also featured for Preston, Squires Gate and Bamber Bridge.

Another New Steelman

Scott Mitchell is the latest player to join Blue Square North newcomers Corby Town.

Twenty-three-year-old, 5'11" midfielder Mitchell started his career at Ipswich Town where he made four first-team appearances.

At the end of the 2005/06 season he joined Livingston in the Scottish Division One on a two year contract, making forty-one appearances and scoring four goals.

In 2008 he joined Peterborough United on a short-term contract and made five appearances in League Two.

He moved to Rushden & Diamonds and went out on loan to King`s Lynn where last season he made the move permanent, making thirty-three appearances and scoring two goals.

Steelmen boss Graham Drury (pictured) said: "Scott will again give us further options. He can play anywhere in midfield and at full back.

"He has a great engine and is supremely fit being a PT instructor.

"Scott more or less completes my signings for the new season although you never know who will turn up on your doorstep so I am going to keep my options open, just in case.

New Striker for Reds

Redditch United manager Gary Whild has signed forward Shane Benjamin from Zamaretto League Premier Division neighbours Stourbridge.

The Birmingham-based striker hit twenty league and cup goals for Shepshed Dynamo last season to be amongst the leading goalscorers in the UniBond League Division One South prior to his move to Stourbridge earlier this year.

The 28-year old has previously played for Castle Vale, Hednesford Town, Studley and Evesham United.

Smith Adds Two

Rob Smith completed a double signing swoop to all-but finalise Blue Square North club AFC Telford United’s summer recruitment programme.

Former Peterborough striker Matt Nolan (pictured) has joined from new league rivals Corby Town, while ex-Barnsley left-back Rhys Meynell has signed from Stalybridge Celtic – both on one-year deals.

Three More For Wilson

Kevin Wilson, manager of Blue Square North newcomers Ilkeston Town, has made three more new signings.

Nineteen-year-old midfielder Josh Burge joins from Coca-Cola League Two side Grimsby Town, 18-year-old centre back Richie Holmes arrives from Chesterfield and left-sided defender or midfielder Alex White, 21, joins the Robins from Skilltrainingltd Northern League side Tow Law Town.

White has previously had spells in Scotland with Gretna and Stranraer and at Blyth Spartans, where he played against Blackburn Rovers in an FA Cup Third Round tie last season.

Motors Lose Another

Another player has decided to move on to pastures new from Blue Square North club Vauxhall Motors as midfielder James Holden has decided to join newly-promoted Principality Welsh Premier new boys Bala Town.

Formerly with Bury, Ashton United and FC United of Manchester, Holden arrived at Vauxhall Motors last summer following an unsuccessful trial at Barrow and turned out to be a key figure in Carl Macauley’s side last season playing forty-one games and scoring three goals.
